Hello and welcome back,
Here I’m again with yet another post ,a new destination and some fashion filled journey.
Do you know “bamboos” include some of the fastest growing plants in the world.Certain species of bamboo can grow 3 ft within a 24 hours period.Yeah! I know, you must be wondering about why on earth I’m talking about bamboos. Well, my today’s post is all about it. So,brace yourself for some Bambusoideae.
If you are following the news you are not unknown about the situation in North-east India and how grievously it has been affected with the flood. The condition was so bad that we were out of power for more than 3 days. And, without power there would be no phones,no laptops, nothing.I almost decided to go back to Kolkata. But,then the communication system was also a victim of this on going flood,so there was no way out.
Definitely not cool, this rain ruined my trip tremendously.Only the god can help me out of this,so finally my prayer was answered and situation started to normalise.when it felt like calming and people were going back to their normal life.I was sad and devastated I mean common I’m here to explore and share my experience with the world or wat else I would be here for. So,after much cancellation of plans I finally got to visit this place which I’m gonna write about and this was in my to-visit list the day I came in Dimapur. without further adieu I’m taking you to this beautiful place.
Bambusa
The word “bamboo” comes from a “Malaya” word called “Mambu” and Malaya is the national language of Malaysia and Indonesia. The dutch named it as “bamboos” and “Bambusa” is its neo-latin name.
Now you know that Bambusa is the another name of bamboo so don’t get confused if I say Bambusa and not bamboo.
Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency
All my curiosity about bamboo ends the day I visited this place which is popularly known as Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA).This place was established in the year 2005 with the sole motive to undertake bamboo development in Nagaland both as a resource and as an enterprise.By resource I mean plantation and regeneration and enterprise means to have bamboo based products. The NBDA has established Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre (NBRC) and with its establishment it has become the place to house new technologies for propagation and processing of bamboo based products.
NBDA is doing a remarkable job in the development of a valuable resource. And the bamboos from here are distributed worldwide same goes for the bamboo based products. The place is open for visitors like us.They have things like restaurant, children’s park, museum and many more things to keep your visit occupied
The interesting part is everything you see here is made out of Bambusa from a simple chair to car shed.Until now I found bamboo as just a hollow stem grass for all who thinks bamboo is a tree no sir/mam, bamboo is not a tree but it belongs to the grass family if we speak in scientific terms Bumbusoideae sub-family of the peremial evergreen grass family Poaceae.
Of all the grasses, bamboo is the most largest and has the capacity to diversify into forest.Bamboos grow in the tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia,Africa and Latin America. They are also found in the northern Australia.
Bamboo is the dominant vegetation type mostly in parts of Northeast India where it covers a huge area. It holds economic as well as cultural significance mostly in parts of southasia, southeast Asia and East Asia, being used as a source of building material as it has the capacity to withstand loads tending to reduce size which makes it stronger than wood, brick or even concrete.
There are altogether 1575 identified species in 111 different genera(both woody and herbaceous) of bamboos.you will find many of them here.I have got few photographs of the bamboos, the species they belong, their scientific name, the parts of the world they belong to,everything is here for you.
The Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency is situated in the 6th mile and it is about 45 minutes ride from the main town.I took autorikshaw as it is the main sort of communication available here but if you are planning to visit please book something in advance so that your journey becomes comfortable.
The place is actually a development agency but feels like a park with amusing play stuffs for children, restaurant ,museum and what not.You will get to experience and learn so many things about Bambusa while enjoining the park. All these features make it a must visit family destination in Dimapur. Here is some visual therapy for you.
The development center

The restaurant

The park
The museum
This place is one of its kind here, but one thing which could not appease me was the cleanliness. The authority really needs to take care of it.otherwise an amazing place to visit.
What I wore
Well I like coke of all drinks so,yeah! I was excited to wear something encrypted with the word “coke” as it is also trending now. So,I bought this coke written t-shirt from my favourite brand(of course it is Forever 21) and was dying to wear it.Soon got this opportunity to wear it and I didn’t miss.Paired it with a rugged denim eyelet( meaning of eyelet A small hole ornamented with stitching around its edge, used as a form of decoration in embroidery) skirt(which is trending these days) from the same brand to give it that rough and tough look. Here goes the pictures.
