Hello guys! Hope everything is well at your end.It has been long since I m back from one of the phenomenal journey of my life but almost forgot to share with y’all except for those who are following me on Instagram they already knew about it. I was preoccupied with several projects that couldn’t get enough time to share it but as they say its better late than never.
I have been travelling and exploring a lot lately as I believe life is too short to be ordinary. I have always been fascinated by rivers, there’s something about them which attracts me and this time I made it to the famous “Dauki”. I m pretty sure that this place is well known to everybody out here and those who are new this is a small town in Meghalaya, India about 82 kms from the capital city Shillong. This place is well known for “Umngot” the cleanest water river in India.
About my journey
I with my photographer cum friend took flight from kolkata to Gauhati. We reached there in the evening so I decided to spend that night at my aunt’s. Now for those coming here for the first time make sure to Pre book your stay at Gauhati, there are many websites which can sort things out for you just for few clicks. And Gauhati is connected by air and rail with almost all parts of India. The next day we rented a cab for Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya just for 1k INR and reached there in about 2 hours.
About my stay.
I Pre booked my stay in Shillong, it was hotel “Yalana” just 10 mins drive from the hottest “Police Bazaar”as it was summer and people from India also from all over the world come to visit this place during this time so getting hotels instantly that too of your choice becomes harder and pre booking makes things lot easier and hassle free.
We checked into the hotel and it was unbelievable, the service they offered was super amazing at a decent price. They were charging us 2500 per night with complimentary breakfast and this was the coolest deal in town. The rooms were way more cool than I expected them to be. So I loved it and was feeling blessed.
The next morning after breakfast we started our journey to “Dauki”. It was the hotel which arranged our ride to that iconic place all I did was to pay for the service. The cab driver was an absolute expert and had been in this job for the past 8 years. So we were definitely in safe hands. It was going to be a 4 hours ride from Shillong, I brought some snacks and water because no food no entertainment one thing I want to add here is the weather there was cool and subtle while the rest of India was burning in summer I felt that chill in the weather throughout my stay in this place so don’t forget your warm clothes when you plan for this trip as it happened to be the most mysterious journey I had in my entire life the weather changes like magic now you feel hot take off your jacket the next thing you realise its so foggy outside that it becomes impossible to see the roads and you shivers in cold so pack your language accordingly. After almost 4 hours of rigorous ride we reached our destination.
Douki or Dawki is situated in the border between India and Bangladesh. This place is known for the “River Umngot” the cleanest water river in the entire India for this reason security forces are there to keep our visit safe and sound when we were entering this place we to had pass through the checkpost, here is the thing while going through this process never show your DSLR to the security forces as photography is officially not allowed but once you get pass through the checkpost shoot your heart out.
We took our digital equipments and got ready to float in that epic river our cab driver was the coolest guy ever he gave us all the time in the world to explore. I was awestruck by seeing the remarkable “Suspension Bridge” built by the British in the year 1932 one has to drive through that bridge in order to get to the river besides its another beauty to cherish. There was an eatery there just in case all this journey makes you really hungry but I didn’t check that out as the river grabed my all attention.
We rented a boat at just 700 INR as we started to float my photographer went crazy and couldn’t stop shooting, It was the best thing that ever happened to me. The water was cystal clear and if we could cross that river the other side was Bangladesh. We stayed on our side and enjoyed the secnic beauty. I really wanted to dive in and swim along but the crowd was pretty heavy people from all over the world were there to enjoy. So I discarded the plan and rather focused on capturing that extraordinary beauty in my eyes. There were beautiful mountains and water falls on the both side of the river what more I could possibly ask for.
I wanted to stay there forever! But after spending few hours I got a call from our cab driver requesting us to move before sunset and like every good time this came to an end. I carried one stone as a souvenir from the river and came back to the hotel with heavy heart
Things to remember while planning for this trip.

- If you feel sick in motion than consult a Doctor before coming for this trip.
